0 to 100km/h in less than 2 secondes! The Battista pure-electric hypercar by legendary Pininfarina is one of my (many) dream cars. It’s also the most spectacular car I’ve got the chance to see live during the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. Let’s dive into what makes it so special…

Apart from being the world’s first luxury electric hyper performance GT, the Pininfarina Battista inspires a revolution in the automotive industry.
PININFARINA CHALLENGING PERFORMANCE
The Battista’s goal is simple: to achieve an equilibrium of extremes never seen before. The supercar will produce twice the power of a Formula One race car. How? By using cutting-edge all-electric Formula E technology. With an all-electric battery and 4 motors driving each wheel, the Battista generates 1900 horsepower. Pininfarina manages to combine extreme performance with zero emissions. Therefore, making it the world most powerful road-legal car ever designed and built from Italy. The technology that drives the Battista can charge its batteries from 20% up to 80% in less than 25 minutes. Lastly, a single charge should last up 450/500 km!

BATTISTA AESTHETIC STANDPOINT
Michael Perschke, CEO, Automobili Pininfarina, said: “The Battista is a truly beautiful, guilt-free hypercar – the first EV to really fall in love with – because electricity enables us to develop it with zero-emissions and as the most powerful car that will have ever been designed and built in Italy.”
As 2020 signs the beginning of a new decade, it also celebrates the 90th anniversary of the legendary Pininfarina SpA design house. Design being at the core of the firm, they managed to bring the Battista’s structure to new heights. An elegant form that seamlessly integrates the car’s innovative engineering solutions to deliver unprecedented performance. Harmony surely is a timeless classic.

To create the car of the future, they needed to focus on the material of the future: carbon fibre. For your information, carbon fibre is 10 times stronger yet 5 times lighter than steel. Hence, this component should appeal to traditional supercar collectors and automotive connoisseurs. Apart from the electric-connector portal, that glows and pulses according to its state of charge (giving away its electric-car credentials), the Battista reflects the pure style of a supercar.

The cabin interior is refined and just as elegant as the outside. A luxurious carbon steering wheel flanked by two large screens. The latter will give the driver an infinite world of possibilities, from tailoring the noise made by the car to adjusting the dynamic experience. I wonder if they will use recyclable materials or leather to cover the interior, but my bet would be on the first option.

PININFARINA BATTISTA: A PLEDGE OF SUSTAINABILITY
“As London joins many cities in moving towards a more sustainable future, we hope that the Battista also inspires a generation to consider electric cars, not just through the benefits of zero-emissions, but also through the beauty and the performance that electrification offers.” – Michael Perschke
In an era where disrupting the status quo is the new norm, the Battista will set new standards for an electric car. Pininfarina already proves that passion for motorsports and sustainable innovation aren’t incompatible.
Battista is just the beginning of a series of luxury EV that will be launched by Pininfarina over the years. This surely is the greatest news because zero-emission is the future. The car industry, are still not moving fast enough in that direction and that explains the success of new brands like Tesla. We might even discover more players in the game soon. They will get a bigger piece of the car industry by providing sustainable solutions to our generation.
